As an artist, I have dabbled in quite a handful of art forms, including (but not limited to): creative writing, poetry, drawing (from still-life realism to anime to characters of my own design), painting, photography, crochet, knitting, sewing, theatre, music (ukulele and piano), singing, and song-writing. Now, I'm the kind of person who thinks of a ton of projects, but I could never bring myself to stick to a single one. After all, there's so many different ways to capture the beauty of a sunset, or to teach someone the importance of friendship, or even help someone sleep at night. How could I possibly choose?
I used to complain that I couldn't decide, but now I realize how amazing it is that a single idea can be conveyed through so many different types of media. We're not limiting to expressing our emotions or thoughts in one way or another, because there's thousands of ways to express ourselves! There are infinite ways to capture beauty, and I wanted a chance to try those out using my variety of artistic skills. I present to you: Project Media, my first long-term project that I've ever set for myself.
Here's how I plan to set this project into motion. At the end of every month, I will release the theme of the following month (for example, I would release August's theme at the end of July). Along with that, I will release a sneak peak of the posts for that theme. Throughout the month, I will release one post every Saturday (with the exception of the first Saturday of any month with five Saturdays). I will post as such:
Post Schedule:
- Week 1: A mood board to visually capture the theme for the month. This would be using either pictures I've taken myself or pictures I've taken off the Internet (with credit, of course).
- Week 2: Either a poem or story written by me, following the theme. If I have a lot of free time, I might post a song cover or an original song related to the theme instead.
- Week 3: Some sort of hands-on media. This would include arts and crafts, drawings (hand-drawn or digital), or paintings.
- Week 4: A crochet project (such as an amigurumi plush or clothing) of my own design. I'm also planning on releasing the patterns with these posts.
- End of the month: Next month's theme and preview.
I also plan to write about my thought process in every post! I want to think of this project as a media study and a chance to improve my different artsy skills, since a few of them are quite different and hard to incorporate into the same project. I do want to mention that you shouldn't necessarily expect utter masterpieces here, because the point is I'm an amateur who wants to improve over time, and part of improving is acknowledging the ugly phase of art and practice. I want to fall in love with the process! Also, I'm not sure how long I'll keep this project running, since I'm about to start college, but I'm excited to take the first step on my own little journey, and I hope you come along on the ride. =)
